What We’re Saying: With the Tokyo Olympics a little over a month away, adidas is bracing itself for a fast summer. To accommodate its athletes leading up to the event(s) and during the games, the sportswear brand has designed a new range of adizero footwear geared towards one thing: going fast.
adidas developed the new adizero collection using insights and data from some of the fastest athletes in the world. More specifically, mechanical, biomechanical, and physiological data was taken from its roster of runners during training camps in Kenya to inform the future of adidas running.
Leading the charge for the FW21 adizero lineup is the adizero adios Pro 2, the second generation of adidas’ record-breaking runner. Upon debuting last year, the first iteration of the shoe helped athletes such as Peres Jepchirchir and Kibiwott Kandie break world records.
“Since stepping in to the adizero adios Pro last year, I ran my fastest ever time and broke world records in the process. I proved to my family that all that time spent apart from them was worthwhile,” said Jepchirchir. “Since then, I’ve been working closely with the adidas running team to identify areas that we can refine to help improve the new shoe. Developing a product that gives me the confidence and performance I need to do it all over again in 2021.”
The adizero adios Pro 2 is already making waves in the running community for being lighter than its predecessor. Up top, the sneaker boasts an incredibly lightweight, partially recycled polyester, Celermesh 2.0 upper designed for speed with flexibility, breathability, and support. Below, two-layers of re-sculpted Lightstrike Pro midsole are paired with the brand’s signature carbon-infused Energyrods to deliver lightweight stiffness and enhanced energy return, all while limiting energy loss. Continental rubber is then applied to the toe tip of the outsole offering traction for faster acceleration.
Joining the adizero adios Pro 2 in the FW21 adizero collection are the adizero Boston 10, an everyday training shoe also featuring adidas Energyrods; the adizero Prime X, a long-distance runner with many of the same design elements as the adios Pro 2; and the Avanti spike, an all-new silhouette boasting a glass fiber composition for stiffness and flexibility on the track.
The adizero adios Pro 2 and adizero Prime X are currently available with early access for Creator Club Members, with a global release slated for June 18. The adizero Boston 10 can be purchased now through adidas and select retailers.
