Introducing 2022 Arnold & Son Nebula Gold Limited Editions

The first edition Nebula watch was presented by Arnold & Son in 2016, and it set itself apart from a variety of skeletonised watches available out there right away. Six years later, the Nebula continues to draw attention, and the two new variations of the previously released references hopefully will, too. The Calibre A&S5201 that drives all the Nebula collection watches was developed with assistance from a sister company, movement maker La Joux-Perret. It was constructed as a skeletonised movement from the beginning, a significant advantage since the layout, or the architecture, allows for a much more elaborate display of Arnold & Son’s mastery.

Although not all nebulas are symmetrical, this common perception was reinforced by the hype when in 2007, the images of the Red Square nebula were released, one of the most symmetrical objects ever observed by astronomers. The Nebula by Arnold & Son puts symmetry in focus, with seven bridges as though radiating from the centre of the dial. These bridges hold in place twin barrels (delivering 90 hours of power reserve) that mirror the seconds’ dial ring and the balance wheel. The new Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Gold and 38 Gold are very much identical and share the same hand-wound Calibre A&S5201.

The movement is elaborately decorated, with colour, light and shadows playing well with the gold case and the dial flange coloured anthracite grey by a NAC treatment (galvanic bath with choice of metals).  Arnold & Son applied the same treatment to the sunray-brushed barrel covers and the main plate with ‘Rayons de la Gloire’ guilloché. The bridges with polished angles and satin-finished surfaces are gold; this gold and grey combination is present with the grey hand-stitched alligator leather strap with a gold pin buckle.

A&S5201 is a relatively thin movement (4,18 mm) among the skeletonised variety. This thickness allows for the case height of only 8.73mm, true for both 41.5 and 38 Gold references, creating the image of lightness, another factor at play with the real nebulas – a nebular cloud the size of our planet would have a total mass of only a few kilos.

The New Arnold & Son Nebula 41.5 Gold and 38 Gold will be limited to 88 pieces each, they are already available, and the price is CHF 30,900 and CHF 28,600, respectively.
