Brand: Jil Sander+

Season: Fall/Winter 2021

Buy: Jil Sander, SSENSE

Editor’s Notes: It’s hot here in New York and the campaign imagery for the FW21 Jil Sander+ collection is really making me miss winter. Maybe not the snow so much, but just being able to layer and stroll outside without dissolving into a puddle of sweat. Anything shot around Zermatt in the Swiss Alps, is pretty much guaranteed to be a snowy affair, though, and the setting makes for a perfect backdrop for the approachable comfy garments.

Uniform dressing is core to the Jil Sander brand but especially so for Jil Sander+, a line devoted to clean basics ideal for filling out or reshaping wardrobes. If you’re looking for elegant appliqué and drapey layers, mainline Jil will have you covered. Jil Sander+, meanwhile, deigns to deliver daily drivers that don’t compromise the label’s luxurious aims, creating uncomplicated but hardly basic clothing that’s imminently wearable and rewearable.

This season sees the sub-label crafting cozy knitwear rippling with woven texture, concocting covetable pullovers for every occasion. These insulating layers are topped with enormous scarves and often tucked into drawstring-tied corduroy or weather-resistant trousers, timeless winter staples that reshape elements of heritage with an air of easy elegance.

When venturing from ski lounge into the winter chill, Jil Sander+ has got you covered with tall duckboots and technical outerwear that’s equal parts function and fancy, thanks to a faux fur trim and streamlined facade. No sign of that Arc’teryx collab that the brand teased for FW21 but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
