These leading ladies from Asia all share a key milestone.
Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, and Hong Chau have made Academy Award history after securing acting nominations for the upcoming Oscars.
This marks the first time that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated three Asian actresses simultaneously.
Yeoh is a contender in the “Best Actress in a Leading Role” category for her film Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. Her co-star Hsu also entered the “Actress in a Supporting Role” category.
The latter will compete with Chau, who starred in The Whale.
Counting Yeoh and Hsu’s co-star Ke Huy Quan, who is a nominee in the “Actor in a Supporting Role” category, this is also the first time the Academy nominated four Asian actors all in one year.
Yeoh became the first Asian actress to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Actress since Merle Oberon in 1935.
