At Bottega Veneta FW23, Many Characters & More Trompe L'oeil 'Fits

After subtly hopping back on social media (sort of), Bottega Veneta debuted its Fall/Winter 2023 collection during Milan Fashion Week. And let’s just say: Matthieu Blazy didn’t disappoint.

The latest runway spectacle again delivered many characters and lots of clothes that are only partially what they seem.

Blazers have ditched their openings (they’re basically tops now). Classic suits are realized entirely in knit constructions, down to the tie. What looks like another classic tank and jeans ‘fit turns out to be the return of that trompe l’oeil leather (Rocky is probably calling his stylist as we speak).

The label’s FW23 also saw popcorn tops, male sweater dresses (absolutely!), more feathery displays, and, erm, knit sock boots hit the catwalk, echoing the spirit of the new, new Bottega.

Like SS23 presentation, Blazy again plays with his concept of “characters,” presenting another collection of moods from the head honcho banker of the city to a woman flexing a coat of 3D fur spots (Cruella could never).

Meanwhile, glass-like pumps instantly sparked the “bippty, boppity, boop” tune in my head.

Of course, the Italian luxury house revisits traditional codes like its famed intreccio and intrecciato concepts, as seen in the fresh offering of thigh-high boots and Sardine and Kalimero bags.

The verdict for Bottega Veneta FW23? It was fun, chic, and sleek! Those details in the craftsmanship — using leather to create what looks like a cotton tank or mimicking layers — make me enjoy Blazy’s Bottega era and what’s to come.

Now, if you need me, I’ll be bookmarking ‘fits that I pray will land in Michelle Obama and Tracee Ellis Ross‘ wardrobe this year.
