Mamma Mia! Red Wing Made IRL Mario Boots

It’s happening again. Just when we thought we’d finally escaped those red boots, another cartoonish shoe arrives, courtesy of Nintendo and Red Wing Shoes.

In celebration of Mario’s big moment up on the big screen, Nintendo took a page from MSCHF’s book and brought the Italian plumber’s shoes to life. And thus, the IRL Mario boots were born on March 10, a.k.a. MAR10 Day (MAR10? MARIO? Get it?).

In creating the shoes, Nintendo enlisted Red Wing Shoes — the footwear brand whose Work Boots still have Ye in a chokehold — to translate the animated shoe into surreal, life-sized conversions crafted with a natural leather upper, mushroom-based heel pads, and a slip-resistant outsole.

Unlike the inescapable MSCHF boots that encompassed nearly ever corner of the internet, these are the only pair of Mario boots. Basically, you (probably) won’t catch these boots anyone in the streets — that is, unless Nintendo decides to advance fashion’s cartoon-ification agenda with a public release.

I can see the Instagram couples’ captions now: “MSCHF boots GF, Mario shoes BF.”

We’re but a month away from The Super Mario Bros. movie — and unfortunately, Chris Pratt’s not-so-Mario voice acting. Following the first teaser back in October, the final trailer for anticipated film released on March 9, revealing the last bit of snippets to hold fans off till the grande April 5 premiere.

For the Mario enthusiasts interested in seeing the IRL Mario boots, they’ll will be on display at Nintedo’s New York store at Rockefeller Center from now through April.
