Model: Super Normal 2
Release Date: March 2023
Editor’s Notes: As the dust finally settles on *those* big red boots, it looks as if MSCHF is taking a bit of a back seat after a month-long hype tunnel.
Following the reveal of its Astro Boy-indebted boots, MSCHF was the word of everyone’s lips. They boots garnered over 25 million hashtag views across TikTok, while on StockX resale prices peaked at around $1,400, which is over $1,000 more than the shoe’s $350 retail price.
Now though, MSCHF is returning to normality to release its new Super Normal 2 sneaker, a far cry from the oversized boots and, well, just pretty normal.
Regular in size and realised in a tasty mint and white colorway, the low-profiled sneaker, which first launched last year, is akin to the silhouette of a classic Nike Air Force 1, but thanks to a splash of the colorful notes and branding we’ve come to expect of MSCHF, it’s different enough.
Of course, sneakers are nothing new for MSCHF. While initially starting out solely as an art collective, the brand has gone on to launch a handful of sneakers thus far, including the controversial “Wavy Baby” shoes they were taken to court and sued for by Vans.
Last year, MSCHF dropped a collaborative Gobstomper shoe alongside Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, who debuted them live on air.
Typically for the brand, there was more to the Gobstomper than first met the eye (and foot?) as it was later revealed they would gradually change color through wear and tear, hence the name.
While details on the Super Normal 2 at the time of writing are non-existent, MSCHF has confirmed to Highsnobiety that both the images and release information of the sneakers are accurate.
This does mean though, that like the Gobstomper there could be more to the Super Normal 2 than meets the eye. Or then again, it could just be a good ol’ fashioned sneaker, who knows?
