If you’re into watches and regularly scroll watch content on social media, the name George Bamford should be very familiar. A pioneer in the customisation of luxury watches, Bamford now promotes his own exclusive portfolio of models under his second brand, Bamford London. Naturally, collaborations and unique creations will always remain central in his creative process, but today it’s something different, following up with recent introductions such as the Heritage GMT watches. A no-nonsense, field-inspired watch available in three different styles: meet the new Bamford B80 collection.
What we’re looking at with the new Bamford B80 Titanium collection is, at first sight, a classic, well-proportioned and fairly priced field-inspired watch. But coming from the mind of George Bamford, you can expect a twist – and the three styles offered each have their own personality. First, the common features. Each model in the collection is built around the same technical architecture. The watch collection takes its name from the very home of its conception: 80 South Audley Street. And all use the same case and movement.
The Bamford B80 features a matte-finished titanium case with a reasonable 39mm diameter and a 10.5mm height. The no-nonsense case, with a flat and rather large bezel, is classic for Field or Flieger watches. A screw-down crown, a solid titanium back, a sapphire crystal on top and 100m water-resistance complete the classic but robust package. All watches are worn on leather or textile straps, with a 20mm width, closed by a titanium buckle. Inside the case is a solid and powerful Swiss automatic movement, the Sellita SW300-1, which beats at 4Hz and now boasts 56h of power reserve (while it used to be 42h in the past).
The collection comprises three different styles, starting with the Bamford B80 Heritage. Two moods are offered, with identical dials otherwise. Matte with a pronounced grained texture, the Heritage models feature applied numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, combined with bold square markers and sharp rectangular hands. Sleek and legible, the dial is available in black with red accents or in navy blue with bright yellow contrasting elements – a theme that is also used for the textile strap. Each model has white luminous markers all across.
Next in line is the Bamford B80 Modern. Without a doubt, the boldest iteration, it comes with a flat matte dial and large, highly luminous Arabic numerals all around the dial. The hands are still rectangular and coated in white SLN. What stands out in this Modern sub-collection, and what explains its name, is the use of bright colours. The first model, the Modern Yellow, has striking neon yellow accents on the numerals and a light blue seconds hand, and two-tone stitching on the strap. The second model, the B80 Modern Blue, uses Bamford’s signature colourway, with aqua-toned numerals in harmony with the seconds hand. The latter is worn on a textile strap with aqua-blue stitching.
Last but not least, the Bamford B80 Titanium collection is available in a version named Adventure, which is the most vintage-looking edition of the lot. Sleek as for the markers, it comes with its own handset, and the dials have a gradient effect and warm colours. Firstly, a hazy green for nature lovers, complete with white indices and a red second hand. The second configuration offers a warming ochre dial with off-white indices and a chocolate brown second-hand complimenting the retro mood. Concluding the line-up is a walnut brown dial, with white indices and a bold Bamford Aqua Blue seconds’ hand.
