Introducing The New Sage Green Ressence Type 8S

It’s hard to imagine twelve years have passed already since we were amazed by the revolutionary (pun intended) orbital display of time by Ressence. It was extremely unusual and original when it was first presented, and it remains that way to this day. The concept uses a clever system of gears and ball bearings to make all indications rotate in constant motion. The brilliance lies in the fact that the indications are split and have their own place on the ‘dial’, yet everything can be read at a glance. Ressence has released an impressive array of models and styles, with last year’s Type 8 Cobalt Blue being the most minimalistic to date. This lighter, simpler model is now joined by the new Sage Green Ressence Type 8S.

The Type 8S Sage Green has the same sleek and flying saucer-like case as last year’s blue Type 8. This measures 42.9mm in diameter and 11mm on top of the sapphire crystal dome. The titanium case has a sandwich construction with a polished upper half and brushed lower half. The Type 8S has virtually no lugs and wears smaller than its dimensions suggest, tucking the strap underneath the bezel of the case. It’s also very light, at just 42 grams in total (case and strap).

Ressence has fitted this second iteration of the Type 8, now dubbed the Type 8S, with a lovely metallic pastel Sage Green tone. The domed titanium dial shows only the most essential information, with hours and minutes in constant motion thanks to the patented Ressence Orbital Convex System. The ‘hands’ and scales for both indications are finished with Super-LumiNova. Despite the constantly rotating display, time is read rather intuitively.

Just like its blue dial sibling, the Type 8S Sage Green uses a customised ETA 28982-2 base movement with the patented ROCS 8 module on top. The module is mounted on four jewel ball bearings and gets power from the minute axle of the base calibre. The automatic movement runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and provides 36 hours of power reserve. It’s hidden from view by the solid caseback which is also used to wind (if needed) and set the watch.

The new Ressence Type 8S Sage Green comes on a grey leather strap with a grade 5 titanium Ardillon buckle. It’s on show during the upcoming Watches & Wonders fair and will be available through official Ressence retailers from early May 2023 onwards. The price is set at CHF 12,500 before taxes, on par with the Cobalt Blue from last year.
