Nomos… Probably the German brand with the youngest, freshest mindset. At the time of its creation, the brand was all about Bauhaus and minimalism – and to illustrate what I mean, check out this article on the most classic of them all, the original Tangente. But quickly, Nomos added some fun and colours to its collections. The best example of that design language is personified with the Club Campus model, a cool, simple and casual watch that’s also the brand’s entry-level piece. Following the orange and grey edition of 2021, and the highly discussed purple and pink versions of 2022, it’s time for more fun with the new Club Campus Cream Coral and Electric Green.
First, a few words about the Club Campus – because, indeed, these four new references, with the two new bright colours, are technically identical to previous versions. The Campus is the more playful, less serious side of Nomos. This more lighthearted spirit is incarnated by the California-style dial layout, mixing Arabic numerals, Roman numerals and baton markers (there’s a lot going on, but it works great), as well as the refreshing choice of colours, shapes, and sizes.
As with previous colourful models, the new Club Campus Cream Coral and Electric Green are available in a compact, unisex case of 36mm, with a thin profile of only 8.2mm, or a more masculine version of 38.5mm, with a thin profile of 8.5mm. As often with the brand, keep in mind the lug length, and you’ll understand that the 36mm edition is a very nice choice, even for a man. The Campus is also a sporty watch with a closed back and 100m water-resistance. It’s not a dive watch, but it’s not going to be afraid of a jump in the pool.
To maintain a reasonable price, this series is powered by calibre Alpha, a compact hand-wound movement based on Peseux architecture but now produced in-house. Beating at 3Hz, it stores 43h of energy when fully wound and comes with hacking seconds. Despite being hidden, it’s nicely decorated with thin stripes and blued screws.
The dial layout, with its combination of Roman and Arabic numerals, is what sets the Club Campus apart from the rest of the brand’s production. It’s more playful, less focused and delivers a nice dose of fun. All markers are rendered with white luminous inserts, just like the hands. And the small seconds hand comes in neon orange for an extra touch of colour. Finally, the two new colours for 2023 – cream coral and electric green – are a slightly toned-down coral pink shade and a more vivid tone of mint green. And just like the bright pink edition of last year, they do make quite an impact.
Worn on a grey suede leather strap, these four new references are now available from the brand and are part of the permanent collection.
