Introducing The Union Glashutte Noramis Date 1970s Colour Collection

Probably one of the most discreet brands owned by the Swatch Group, Union Glashütte is its other brand to be located in the temple of fine German watchmaking (together with Glashütte Original). With a more accessible and more classic positioning, it has nevertheless some rather interesting watches in display – see the attractive 1893 Johannes Dürrstein Power Edition here. In recent years, it seems that Union wants to become slightly more striking and add personality to its classic timepieces. And what’s the best solution for that? Colours, a lot of colours actually. All inspired by the funky 1970s, here are 5 new editions of the Noramis Date.

The Noramis Date was and still is a rather classic watch. Elegantly designed without being too dressy, with decent proportions, an overall nice dial and a movement that packs a lot of arguments, it’s been around for some years with classic black or silver dials. Not the most thrilling, but always an efficient solution. But things are changing, and it’s time for some bold colours.

Positano Yellow, Bahia Red, Cornflower Blue, Vintage Green, Graphite Grey… These are the five new colours that Union Glashütte is bringing to its classic time-and-date watch. And if you’re into cars, you’ll certainly see some historical references here. Back in the 1970s, people were not shy to go for bold and funky colours. Yellow, green and all sorts of marrons were to be seen at each corner of a street. Not always the most tasteful choices, but trends come and go. The five different dial colours of the Noramis Date are inspired by the paintwork of vintage cars from the 1970s. Bold and all rather tasteful, they make a much stronger impact on the collection.

In addition, Union Glashütte bring a redesigned case. Still 40mm in diameter and made of polished steel with a 100m water-resistance, the dials are now flat and under a box-shaped sapphire crystal. It’s a quite thin watch too, at 10.40mm. The dials feature a combination of polished applied markers and numerals, like the hands that now have a thin luminous insert. The date remains at 3 o’clock, and is printed on a white disc. All watches are worn on a leather strap, closed by a folding clasp.

Inside, Union Glashutte has reworked the mechanics too. The Noramis Date is now powered by the calibre UNG-07.S1, an evolution of the 2892 architecture, with an antimagnetic silicon hairspring, a revised frequency of 3.5Hz and an extended power reserve of 60 hours.

This new colourful Union Glashutte Noramis Date collection will soon be available from retailers and is priced at EUR 2,400. For more details, please visit www.union-glashuette.com.
