The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 has been a smashing success for about two years now. Ever since it was first launched, people embraced it with open arms. Here was a luxury stainless steel sports watch with very good looks, solid mechanics, a very decent price tag, and above all; it was and still is widely available! And although Tissot doesn’t always deliver what we want or expect, the PRX collection is home to quite some colourful and mechanical variations! One new colour we spotted online and apparently on people’s wrists just now is a very tasty ice-blue PRX Powermatic 80! And believe it or not, for the time being, Tissot itself is dead-silent about it. Nevertheless, it’s news, it’s available, so we’re covering it!
To be perfectly clear, besides the dial colour, absolutely nothing has changed between this one and all the dial variations that came before it. It still has a 40mm by 10.8mm stainless steel case with the very familiar 1970s integrated design. The brushed and polished case is fitted with a sapphire crystal on both sides, as you expect. At 100m water resistance, you can go about your daily business carefree as ever.
The biggest change, of course, is the dial, which now comes in a very cool ice-blue tone. This is a colour that has been on the rise in recent years and is often one to find a strong fan base, us included! It retains the waffle-like ‘tapisserie’ pattern of the original, the applied metallic markers and faceted hands with Super-Lumi-Nova and the framed date window at 3 o’clock.
Inside ticks the mighty Powermatic 80 movement, Swatch Group’s upgraded ETA 2824. This comes with a reworked kinetic chain and has a frequency of 21,600vph. It also has an anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring and holds up to 80 hours of power reserve in a single barrel. It can be seen working away through the sapphire crystal caseback, which also offers a view of the simple yet nicely decorated rotor.
Similar to all previous PRX Powermatic 80s, this ice-blue version comes on an integrated three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and an easy-exchange system. It’s listed at several online retailers at EUR 745, on par with the others. Availability is a bit unclear as Tissot has not communicated anything about it, but we did find it available for purchase at multiple dealers as mentioned.
