Suicoke is for the people. Its sandals are generally pretty available for anyone who wants to buy them but, obviously, Suicoke collaborations are limited edition. Sometimes very limited edition. Sometimes very very limited edition.
And then there’s Adish’s Suicoke collab, which is so limited that only five pairs of their ZAVO sandals will ever be made.
Each variant is exclusive to a retailer, and it’s the only version that store will have. Want another iteration? You’ll have to travel to Dover Street Market’s international locations or COMME des GARÇONS Seoul, where the Adish Suicoke sandals will only be sold in-store.
It’s a pretty specific rollout for a pretty specific shoe. See, these Suicokes uphold the attitude that’s been core to Adish’s ethos since its inception: a cross-pollination of Israeli and Palestinian cultures that aims to “raise awareness to the ongoing injustices happening on a daily basis in Palestine,” according to Adish itself.
Adish’s creative team consistently travels between Israel and occupied Palestine to manufacture its products, utilizing traditional techniques to embellish its garments. Its Suicoke sandals, for instance, sport a form of hand-stitched Palestinian embroidery that graces many of Adish’s designs.
With this sort of thoughtful construction, no wonder these shoes are so hard to come by.
It’s a different circumstance than, say, a challenging design. Instead, Adish’s Suicokes recall the similarly handmade sandals created by Bodega.
This isn’t the sort of drop that makes anyone big bucks, necessarily, it’s more about telling a story and creating a prestige product that’s got more cultural clout than the seasonal stuff we all come to expect.
A welcome change of pace, to be sure, and indicative of Suicoke’s growing prowess as a purveyor of fine footwear.
