Of all the spectators who were glad to see Rihanna’s high-flying return during the Super Bowl Half-Time Show last night, not a one was cheesing as hard as her partner, A$AP Rocky.
While Rihanna tore up the stage in a custom cinnamon hots-red Loewe jumpsuit (which debuted her growing baby bump, revealing that the couple is expecting their second child), an Alaïa duvet coat, and Margiela x Solomon sneakers, the NFL’s dutiful content team caught Rocky, who scored a coveted spot on the field to watch the performance, gleefully filming it all on his phone. This also provided a prime opportunity for Mr. Fashion Killa himself to show off his own outfit.(It would, after all, be uncharacteristic of Rocky to leave a Rih fashion serve hanging.)
During the show, A$AP flexed a custom red, white, and blue NFL leather varsity jacket by designer and frequent Rocky collaborator Jeff Hamilton, which featured an embroidered image of Rihanna’s tattooed hand holding a football, which was the same image she used to announce her performance back in September. He accessorized with a Fenty-branded trucker hat, an excellent pair of enormous khaki pants (held up by his favorite “GRIM” belt), and square-toed boots. A very “proud husband and father” kind of outfit, in his own very Rocky way.
Funnily enough, when Rocky excited the stadium after the game, he was accompanied by Jay-Z, who was either wearing an identical jacket to Rocky’s, or was just keeping Rocky’s jacket warm for the time being. Surely Jay, an early mentor to Rih, had his own reasons to feel proud, too.
For a night of afterparties, Rocky swapped out the oversized khakis for a pair of baggy blue jeans and black cowboy boots (a classic, if misunderstood, combo) and carried an obelisk-shaped bottle of his own Mercer + Prince whiskey. All around, it was a big night all for the Mayers-Fenty fam.
